How I Got Interested In Application Development
I wouldn’t call myself an expert in App Development by any stretch of the imagination.
However, I have spent years reading and learning about it. I have likely spent months, or possibly even years, working on side projects to solve various needs and ideas with simple programs.
Here’s how I first got interested in developing apps
The iPhone 3Gs had just been released and I downloaded Xcode to give app development a shot. My wife was teaching and there was a device that every teacher had and it seemed like a no brainer to turn it into an app.
What was this device?
It was the ever present “E-Z Grader”
I headed down the path of creating a simple app to digitize this device but never sent it to the App Store.
Fast forward 8 years and the App Development bug was still with me. I developed a screen time timer app for personal use that was amazingly simple but solved a problem we had that no other app I could find solved. This time, I submitted it to the App Store but it was rejected on the grounds that it didn’t provide enough value. While I was able to use it on my personal devices that put a damper on my enthusiasm for the space.
Six years later the bug is back and I have another problem to solve for myself. I’ll try my hand at deploying to the App Store as well.
My goal over the coming year
Build out an app with a simple stretching routine and get it on the App Store.
I’m looking forward to documenting my journey along the way.
