Struggling To Keep Up As A Developer? It’s OK, Continuous Learning Is Hard

I used to love learning about new technology and enjoyed keeping up with the latest trends.

I thought everyone else was the same as me for a long time. The more people I’ve met throughout my life, the more I realize that most professions don’t have the same built-in learning as software development.

Many professions have to build in ‘professional development.’

The development landscape is constantly changing.

I still love learning, although I’ve realized it’s not as common as I initially thought.

There aren’t many jobs that change as quickly as software development. Especially if you want to stay on top of the latest trends, some new framework is always coming out. The treadmill of new never stops spinning.

Always learning the next new thing is tough.

Keeping up can be exhausting.

How do I recommend you stay on top of the latest trends in your tech area?

I don’t.

Attempting to stay on top of the latest trends is a futile effort, in my experience. It’s better to understand the changes making waves and let everything else that doesn’t grab your attention pass by.

Success as a developer often comes from mastering the relevant aspects of your field rather than trying to keep up with everything.
