The Number One Reason You Should Become A Mentor
At times in my career, I’ve entered a slump.
Progressing is often described as the career ladder in the business world. At times, it can feel like the rungs are coated in grease. Progress is hard. At these times, I realize I’m not growing because I’m not sharing.
Passing your knowledge to someone else lets you see how far you’ve come.
The most significant change being a mentor made in my career was the realization of the progress I had made
We often don’t realize how far we’ve come until someone forces us to look behind.
Mentorship is the fastest way I know of to gain this perspective. You can keep track of accomplishments and milestones all you like, but it doesn’t sink in until you see your skillset through someone else’s eyes. Realizing how much time and experience you’ve gained is a powerful tool. The cementation of your knowledge is a bonus.
You don’t need to know everything, just more than someone else, to become a mentor and share your knowledge.
