I’ve been interested in and growing as a creator for a while now. It started a decade ago when I was teaching 5th grade. In the past two years, I’ve made a ton of progress. I wanted to thank a few people who’ve greatly influenced me.

It started with Todd Nesloney

Todd introduced me to the idea of a flipped classroom. Before you bounce with all this educator talk, it’s how I got started creating YouTube videos. I’d develop lessons for my class and share them as homework and in class, we’d work through what was traditionally homework.

Cassidy Williams showed me the power of community

Cassidy has her pulse on the developer community and makes it fun. From her live streams to conference talks, she has been an inspiration. She even released what might be the most powerful developer tool ever. And last year, I had the incredible opportunity to host a workshop with her.

Brad Garropy pushed me towards clarity

Brad and I sat down for over 30 podcasts. He constantly pushed me to improve my communication and break things down in the simplest way possible. This experience was fantastic. He continues to do incredible work on compressed.

Patrick Collins broke me down and built me up again

When I transitioned into my current role, Patrick was an invaluable source of feedback. Having the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with him was terrific. His input and push always to do better helped me get where I am today.

And many more

Along the way, there have been countless other influences and teachers. These people are top of mind as I continue to push forward, learning more about content creation. I hope to pass on what I have learned to the next person, like others did for me.

Who are a few people who have influenced you the most?
